Matt’s introduction to health and fitness was as a nerdy teen who fell in love with martial arts training. The impact of this initial experience of moving, breathing, and sweating, has led him to pursue many different physical and mental training ideologies over his life. In college he gave up on Computer Science to instead major in Modern Dance, and he went on to work and perform professionally in Buenos Aires, New York, Denver, San Francisco, and other cities. He later entered graduate school for Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine, and during that time studied Northern Shaolin Kung Fu with Sifu Kisu, martial arts consultant for Avatar: The Last Airbender.
He ultimately chose not go into practice in Acupuncture, but took with him a deep understanding of holistic health and performance. In 2009 he joined his first Crossfit gym, from there going on to train and sometimes compete in trail running, Powerlifting, Strongman, and Kettlebell Sport. In 2013 he became a full-time personal trainer and fitness instructor, and in 2015 he volunteered as Strength & Conditioning Coach for Nightlock Ultimate, helping them maintain a top-10 national ranking while significantly lowering their injury rate for the season. He is also a part-time instructor for Trackers Bay Area, teaching outdoor skills and archery to kids.
