July Athlete of the Month: Marcelle!!

· What made you want to start?

I recently moved here from the Dominican Republic where I was actively surfing and dancing, and I wasn’t able to do those as often here. I decided to give Grassroots a shot since it’s close to my house.

What was your experience in joining our gym?

Being a part of Grassroots has been great. I come to the 6:30 class and Coach Atchie is very welcoming; and the gym itself has everything I need. I really like the combination of exercises and the way we approach each class with running, stretching, strength or skill work, WOD and accessory work.

Do you check the workout before coming in or do you just show up?

I don’t check the workout – I just show up.

Do you have a favorite exercise or movement?

I love back squats.

Least favorite?

The assault bike!

What’s your most recent PR?

My most recent PR was 145# deadlift.

What fitness goals have you set for yourself to achieve in 2016?

I haven’t set any specific goals – I just like to have fun, and starting the day at Grassroots fills me with positive energy for the day. But, being able to do a muscle up this year would make me really proud of myself!

Where are you from?

I am originally from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and I am a student at UC Berkeley.

If you could describe Grassroots in five words, what would they be?

Positive, energized, welcoming, fun and encouraging.
